Life Lesson
"Do not get too caught up on the future and exceptions because in life you have to work hard."
Natalie Weder was born in Princeton, New Jersey, and was raised in Mexico City. She is now forty-five years old and has two daughters.
She studied Psychiatry at Yale University and Child Psychiatry at NYU. She has been working at the Child Mind Institution (CMI) for ten years, helping children and adults with depression, anxiety, ADHD, Autism, various learning disorders, and many other things. She also works closely with families to develop a path that best suits their goals.
She has had a lot of mentors throughout her career who have inspired her to dedicate her career to something important, such as helping children in abusive households improve their quality of life. She has worked with many doctors who have never given up, and continue working to improve people’s lives. Natalie also finds great inspiration in reading. She enjoys the virtues and lessons authors have to give within their literary works. She says how books give her a greater understanding of life. She also says how her patients can be sources of inspiration because seeing them overcome challenges can be very inspiring.
“I have learned to not assume things and not judge things because everyone is unique and has a different story. Until you take that into account you can never help someone or make their life better.” Natalie remembers one time when she worked with a blind boy who was being very difficult about having his blood taken. She soon realized that if she had taken more time with the boy, explaining what was happening, it would have been a much better experience. “If you do not stop and understand what life is like for someone else, it can be very challenging to help them.”
